Along with the 'Horn' alto, it too was designed and conceived in 1993, wit the aim of manufacturing a new range of saxes to fit into the distinctive, reasonably priced student saxophone category without compromising quality.

 

Both the alto and tenor "Horns' we launched at Musikmesse Frankfurt in 1994, and quickly became popular around World with their ease of sound production, excellent build quality and an affordable price tag.  

 

Understanding the importance of the updated Trevor James 'Horn'  Classic models staying faithful to the design objectives of the original 'Horn' (1993) was important to us.  Combine this with new advances in crook design and it demonstrates perfectly, that with dedicated research and design, quality is affordable!

Why the Horn '88?

In 1988, the initial concept for a Trevor James saxophone followed on from the Worldwide success and popularity of Trevor James flutes.  At that time there were very few quality brand name options for sax players which demonstrated a real need to develop a new, free blowing, high quality, well designed instrument.

The original idea was developed further leading to a full scale launch in 1990 of the original 'The Horn' saxophones at Pizza Express Jazz bar in Maidstone, UK .

We are therefore using the 25yr anniversary of the initial thought concept as the design seed for the new Horn '88.  The instrument remains faithful to the design of the original 'The Horn' saxophone with some added visual and performance 'twists'.

 

New 'Champagne' gold frost finish.

The finish is a new water based coating which when baked becomes very hard.

The inside of the crook tenon has gun rifling to enhance the air flow and tonal dynamics.  This is a big sounding horn!

The new 'Raw' and 'RAW" XS* Signature Custom saxophone have been developed following more than 12 months of testing, discussion and research with sax players around the world who wanted a genuine vintage sound along with an aged look to their instrument.  Unlike many other Companies who simply apply a coloured finish to the instrument to give it the appearance of being old, we have simply taken the saxophone in it's raw manufactured condition and added the mechanism.  So when we say the instrument is RAW...it really is!!

 

The result?....An instrument with a wide amount of tonal colours, sound options and flexibility which is more personal, more advanced and unlike any other!

In addition to the Signature Custom RAW and RAW XS*models, we also offer Signature Custom alto saxophones in gold lacquer as a standard option.

Trevor James SR 中音薩克斯


A quality step-up for those upgrading from their first sax.

Launched in January 2011 the Trevor James 'SR' alto has been developed in close cooperation with sax players around the World including players such as Andy Sheppard . Using the hand built professional Signature Custom models as the template, the SR instruments have taken on many of the mechanism and crook features that were previously only available to professional players. The results are very free blowing alto saxophones with rich tonal characteristics.

Alphasax 中音薩克斯

The unique saxophone designed with for the younger and smaller player!

 

Design - The Alphasax is based around the original body tube of an alto saxophone with completely redesigned mechanism and tone hole positioning for the smaller individual who would previously have been told to "wait until they got bigger" before they could learn to play the sax.  

 

The Alphasax Solution to a normal alto saxophone for the younger or smaller player

  • Problematic keys with long finger stretch have been removed or redesigned for extra comfort.

  • The weight has been reduced by an amazing 33%.

Key and Mechanism - The Alphasax in the key of Eb, with a full two octave chromatic facility using established finger positioning to enable the smaller player to learn the alto saxophone using current study books.  New and innovative mechanism has enabled us to maintain the finger positioning of a normal saxophone.

 

Key and Mechanism Detail

  • The left hand palm keys for top D#, E and F have been removed.

  • The top D key has been adjusted to fit small hands.

  • The low B & Bb keys have been removed.

  • Redesigned G# and low C# keys are now easier to reach.

  • The right hand side F# keys and side C key have been removed.

  • Redesigned low D# and C keys are now easier to reach.

  • The Alphasax retains a fully chromatic range from low C to high D.

  • Bb bis and side Bb keys are retained.

Weight - At only 1.86kg in weight the revolutionary Alphasax saxophone is 33% lighter than the traditional alto saxophone.  

 

Case - A lightweight (1.48kg) moulded case with backpack straps is included along with a BG harness strap, mouthpiece, cap and single screw ligature.  A Vandoren reed completes the package.

 

The Alphasax is therefore an incredible 3.34kg in its carry case (compared to the usual 4.9kg + of the standard alto saxophone).  A stunning 44% lighter!

 

Design Registration

 

The Alphasax was granted a Certificate of Design Registration from the European Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs) - October 2008
